The National Center performs the following roles as defined in the Korean HPC act.

Establishment of resources
- Establishing utilization system for world-class super-computing.
- Establishing an advanced network and its management and operation.
- Gathering and spreading super-computing related large-scale(big) data.
- Establishing and managing shared utilization of super-computing resources.

R&D projects
- R&D on leading fields for super-computer applications.
- R&D on national super-computing through industry-university-institute collaboration.

Technology development
- Developing super computing-based technology and spreading the achievements therefrom.

Manpower development
- Fostering, educating and training super-computing related professionals.

Vitalization of utilization
- Supporting resources, technology, and human resources for the fields of super-computing application.
- Cooperating and supporting professional centers.
- International cooperating regarding super-computing.

Political support
- Supporting the establishment of a master plan and implementation plan, and supporting committees and practical committee.
- Researching of demand forecast for super-computing, and researching on national policies including establishment of strategy for fostering and vitalizing super-computing.
